General Expectations for Mr. VanNostrand's Classes
Be in class ready to learn at the assigned class time each day.
In class online means you are logged into Microsoft TEAMS (hereafter known as TEAMS), at your workstation, and working on your bell work. In class at school means you are in your seat, materials out, phone put away, and working on your bell work.
Be respectful of the speaker. This is a time for you to listen and pay attention. There will be a time for questions and answers.
No food or drinks allowed in the class setting.
Upload all your work to your student notebook in Microsoft TEAMS and also keep at least one copy on a Thumb Drive or some other storage device. You are responsible for all your work. "Lost" or "destroyed" work is not an excuse.
I understand that TEAMS is a new platform for everyone, and that there is a learning experience to the app, but that does not excuse you from completing assignments. All assignment need to be completed on time and to the best of your ability. If you are need help, you can attend the tutoring sessions that are scheduled.
Grading
All work that is graded, the grades will be placed in PowerSchool. PowerSchool will be where you track your grades for each nine weeks. TEAMS will show work grades for some assignments, and those grades will be transferred to PowerSchool. You will also have grades from other programs and websites that will factor into your grades each nine weeks.
Grading for each nine will be calculated using the following percentages:
As a practice, I will place a grade of 1 (one) on an incomplete assignment in PowerSchool to show that a student can still make up the work on that assignment. If the grade has been changed to a 0 (zero), that means that the time to complete the assignment after the due date has lapsed and the assignment con no longer be turned in. I will have had a conference with the student and contacted a parent by the preferred method, before a grade of 0 (zero) is placed in the grade book.
I will do my best to work with a student who is need of extra help with assignments. But this is a two way street, the student must also help themselves. They need to ask for help, whether in person, by email or text (901-295-9557). There are 2 tutoring periods built into the schedule during the virtual learning schedule each week, and I am available after school when we return to in person learning.
Discipline
I expect every student to conduct themselves as if they are in a workplace setting, to be professional, treat others with respect, represent themselves as young adults. As in any workplace, there are some rules that need to followed.
